Adrián Díaz and Sara Fernández claim their second victory of the season at the RallyRACC

The RallyRACC Catalunya–Costa Daurada 2025 was one of the most special rounds on the GR Yaris Cup Spain calendar, commemorating the 60th edition of the historic rally with a mixed-surface route, combining gravel and tarmac. The ceremonial start on Salou’s seafront once again brought together numerous fans and led into the traditional urban stage, the only one on the opening day, where the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup cars put on a great show.

In this short first stage, Sergi Francolí and Xavier Moreno (CSM Automoció) became the first leaders of the one-make cup with the GR Yaris, setting the fastest time on the spectator stage, in front of their home crowd.

The second leg, held entirely on gravel, was the toughest and most demanding of the weekend. José Lamela and Unai Conde (Breogán Motor) dominated from the very first stage, ending Saturday as solid leaders. Their Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup delivered an exceptional performance. In the stage classifications, the GR Yaris Cup Spain frontrunners mixed with the higher Rally2 category cars, finishing the gravel leg in sixth place overall.

At that point, José Lamela and Unai Conde (Breogán Motor) held a lead of more than two and a half minutes over Adrián Díaz and Sara Fernández (Breogán Motor), and more than three minutes over Laia Sanz and Luka Larrosa (CSM Automoció). Daniel Remuiñán and Álvaro Cerqueiras (Breogán Motor) were fourth. Meanwhile, Joan Socias and Diego Fuentes (Toyota Asturias) suffered a puncture and damage from a jump, dropping out of contention, while Sergi Francolí was forced to retire halfway through the stage.

During the evening service, teams carried out intense technical work to convert the Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup cars from gravel to tarmac setup, in preparation for the first night tarmac stage on Saturday and the decisive all-tarmac Sunday leg.

Sunday began with heavy rain on the early stages, making tire choice difficult. However, the afternoon stages were dry, allowing teams to regain pace and confidence. José Lamela, who had been leading, suffered mechanical problems that dropped him to third overall, though he still earned six extra points for setting six stage wins throughout the rally. Adrián Díaz and Sara Fernández (Breogán Motor) capitalized on their consistency on gravel and experience on tarmac to claim their second victory of the season. Laia Sanz and Luka Larrosa (CSM Automoció) delivered a superb performance, finishing second overall, their best result to date.

Notably, the top three finishers in the GR Yaris Cup Spain at the RallyRACC Catalunya–Costa Daurada all placed their Toyota GR Yaris RZ Cup cars within the top 10 overall, with the winner, Adrián Díaz, finishing sixth overall — an excellent result in such a demanding event.

Meanwhile, Joan Socias took two stage wins and claimed the GR Plus trophy, while Sergi Francolí, rejoining after his Saturday retirement, scored five stage wins and finished second in GR Plus, earning key points that returned him to the lead of the GR Yaris Cup Spain standings.

Elsewhere, Iker Etxeberria and Olatz San Miguel (CSM Automoció) and Pol Tarrés and Sergi Brugue (IPPON Motor Vallès), who were making their Cup debut, retired due to mechanical issues during the final leg.

With these results, the overall standings of the GR Yaris Cup Spain 2025, organized by Toyota Spain and the Motor & Sport Institute (MSI), are now tighter than ever. Sergi Francolí (CSM Automoció) leads with 94 points, followed by José Lamela (Breogán Motor) with 79, Daniel Remuiñán (Breogán Motor) with 77, Adrián Díaz (Breogán Motor) with 75, and Joan Socias (Toyota Asturias) with 74. Laia Sanz (CSM Automoció) holds sixth place with 55 points, confirming her excellent progress throughout the season.

The championship will hold its final round at the Rallye La Nucía on November 8–9, where the GR Yaris Cup Spain 2025 title will be decided. The Alicante event will have a 1.5 points coefficient, increasing the stakes and leaving the outcome completely open among the main title contenders.
