Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada, WRC2 Challenger winners and second in WRC2 at the 2026 Rally Islas Canarias

Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada, WRC2 Challenger winners and second in WRC2 at the 2026 Rally Islas Canarias

Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada, at the wheel of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, have completed a very solid Rally Islas Canarias and return to the podium after securing a valuable second place in the WRC2 category, along with victory in WRC2 Challenger. The Spanish duo from MSi Racing Team and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain once again performed at a very high level in their home event, the Rally Islas Canarias, achieving one of the most important results of this early stage of the 2026 season.

The result also carries added value, as Alejandro Cachón has repeated the same second place in WRC2 that he achieved in last year’s 2025 edition of the island event, and has also successfully defended the WRC2 Challenger win he secured a year ago.

From the opening day, Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada were involved in the fight for the top positions. Throughout the rally, they maintained a close battle with Léo Rossel, in a tight duel that saw both finish Saturday’s leg separated by just two tenths of a second.

On Sunday, with two stages remaining, after hitting a rim, Alejandro and Borja’s second place came under threat as they had to run on soft tyres. However, in the next and penultimate stage, Léo Rossel suffered a broken transmission, which ultimately took him out of podium contention. This allowed Cachón and Rozada to secure second place in WRC2 and the victory in WRC2 Challenger.

Alejandro Cachón moves up to sixth place in WRC2 and third in WRC2 Challenger in a season in which this was only his second scoring round out of the seven he can nominate, while several of his direct rivals have already scored in three rallies.

The next event for Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada will be Rally de Portugal, from May 7 to 10, the first gravel event they will contest this season, with the aim of continuing to progress and adding important championship points.

Alejandro Cachón (DRIVER): “It has been a very difficult rally. We pushed very hard, at a very high pace, and our rivals put us under a lot of pressure. The whole team did a great job, and this second place is very valuable for the points we’ve scored. Now Portugal is coming up, the surface changes, and we will try to fight for the victory”.

Borja Rozada (CODRIVER): “It has been a very demanding rally from the start, with a very high pace and challenging conditions in some stages. We have been fighting in every section against very strong rivals, and the work with Alejandro has been very solid. We are very satisfied with the result, especially with the points scored in WRC2 and the victory in WRC2 Challenger”.

Teo Martín (TEAM MANAGER): “The result achieved by Alejandro and Borja is a great reward for the work done throughout the weekend. They have shown a very competitive pace in such a demanding event as Rally Islas Canarias, always fighting at the front. This second place in WRC2 and the victory in WRC2 Challenger reinforce the development of the project and the strong start to the season”.

Great performance by Diego Domínguez and Rogelio Peñate at the 2026 Rally Islas Canarias

Diego Domínguez and Rogelio Peñate delivered a strong performance at the 2026 Rally Islas Canarias, finishing 12th in WRC2 and in ninth position at WRC2 Challenger.

The Domínguez–Peñate duo showed clear progress on asphalt, a surface on which the Paraguayan driver has less experience. Their consistency throughout the rally proved key to securing this result, reflecting both their development and the learning gained over the weekend.

From the opening day, Domínguez and Peñate made a significant step forward in performance on asphalt, allowing them to approach the following stages with greater confidence, aiming to improve on last year’s result.

Not even the rain, which made an appearance on SS10, affected their performance, as they completed the stages without issues while maintaining a consistently competitive pace.

On Saturday, Domínguez and Peñate ended the day with very positive feelings, running at a leading pace in the final stage—an early sign of the potential they would confirm in the closing stages of the rally.

In the final part of the event, the duo set the second-fastest time in both WRC2 and WRC2 Challenger, underlining their strong performance and wrapping up the rally with an encouraging result for the future.

Diego Domínguez (DRIVER): “Very happy. We improved stage by stage and finished the final stage with the third fastest time, a great way to end the rally. The overall assessment is very positive, and we want to thank everyone for all the support and kindness we have received”.

Rogelio Peñate (CODRIVER): “It has been a very positive rally. We improved stage by stage, adapting to the asphalt and finding a good rhythm as the stages went by. The team has done a great job and this result reflects the progress we have made throughout the weekend”.

Teo Martín (TEAM MANAGER): “Very satisfied with the work of Diego and Rogelio. They have shown a very clear evolution on a demanding surface like asphalt, being consistent and competitive throughout the rally. This result is a good reward for the team’s effort and a solid base to keep growing”.

Andrea Lafarja and Germán Maune finished third in the WRC Masters Cup at the 2026 Rally Islas Canarias

Andrea Lafarja and Germán Maune successfully completed the 2026 Rally Islas Canarias, marking their first experience on asphalt.

The main objective for the Paraguayan duo was to gain mileage and build experience on a surface that was entirely new to them, a goal they achieved throughout the event.

Stage by stage, Andrea Lafarja made steady progress and found an improving rhythm. During the second loop, together with Germán Maune, they refined their pace notes to increase speed, allowing Andrea to feel increasingly comfortable on asphalt.

Their learning process continued in changing conditions, as the arrival of rain led them to tackle two stages on wet roads, adding further valuable experience.

A setback in the final stage on Saturday, after hitting a wheel rim, forced them to stop and rejoin the rally on Sunday in order to complete the event.

In the end, Andrea Lafarja and Germán Maune finished the Rally Islas Canarias in third position in the WRC Masters Cup, bringing to a close a weekend defined by progress and valuable learning.

Andrea Lafarja (DRIVER): “First time on asphalt, first time in the Canary Islands, and our second consecutive podium finish in the world championship. We are happy and proud of this third place in the WRC Masters Cup. Thanks to Germán, the team, and all the people of the Canary Islands for the warmth and support they’ve shown us this week”.

Germán Maune (CODRIVER): “It has been a very positive experience in our first asphalt rally in the Canary Islands. We improved stage by stage, adapting to a new surface and working hard on the pace notes to find more speed. Despite the setback on Saturday, we were able to rejoin and finish the rally, which gave us a very valuable weekend in terms of learning”.

Teo Martín (TEAM MANAGER): “The work of Andrea and Germán has been very positive. The main objective was to gain experience on asphalt and they have shown great adaptability throughout the rally”.
