Dani Losada Crowned 2025 Toyota GR Cup Spain Champion

The Toyota GR Cup Spain, the one-make series organized by Toyota Spain and the Motor & Sport Institute (MSI), closed the 2025 season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in a decisive weekend in which six drivers arrived with mathematical chances of taking the title. The sporting regulations, which allowed the two worst results of the year to be dropped, kept the standings open until this final round.

Friday saw the free practice sessions, which allowed the drivers to obtain the first references of the track and the setup of the Toyota GR86 Circuit Pack. On Saturday the official activity began with the qualifying session, where Sandro Pérez set a time of 2:01.792 that earned him the first pole position of the weekend, followed by Marcos de Diego and Marco Aguilera. The top 5 were separated by barely 3 tenths.

The first race offered a perfect display of the parity that characterizes the Toyota GR Cup Spain. Marcos de Diego did everything possible to keep the championship alive, but the action on track was intense from the start. Ignacio Rodríguez made a great start, while Sandro Pérez held firm in the lead before the appearance of the first Safety Car. After the restart, Pérez maintained the lead, with Marco Aguilera second and De Diego third, while Dani Losada ran fourth without taking risks.

The battle between Pérez and De Diego was one of the most thrilling moments of the race, with several overtaking attempts and constant changes of pace. Although Sandro crossed the finish line in first position, a five-second penalty dropped him to seventh place, which allowed Marcos de Diego to take the victory and Losada to climb to second position, leaving the title practically secured for him mathematically. In addition, De Diego set the fastest lap of the race.

Sunday morning began with the second qualifying session, held on a damp track due to the rain that had fallen overnight. In these conditions, Sandro Pérez was once again the fastest, claiming the second pole of the weekend for the GR86 Circuit Packs with a time of 2:09.744.

The second race of the Toyota GR Cup Spain, held after accumulated delays that caused the race to finish already at night, allowed Sandro Pérez to keep control from the first corner after making the most of pole position. Antonio Albacete and Marcos de Diego settled into second and third in the early stages, while behind them an intense battle took place marked by continuous position changes among Ignacio Rodríguez, Tomás Pregliasco, Dani Losada and Marco Aguilera.

Variations in pace, constant attacks and defenses defined a very combative chasing group that kept the excitement alive throughout the race. Finally, Marco Aguilera managed to climb to second place and Marcos de Diego completed the third step of the podium, while Antonio Albacete dropped to fourth under pressure from the chasing group.

The weekend also featured the presence of Albert Fàbrega, brand ambassador and technical analyst, who competed as a guest driver. Fàbrega completed a steady progression, going from less to more in pace and adaptation to the Toyota GR86.

With the fifth place obtained in the final race, Dani Losada becomes the new champion of the Toyota GR Cup Spain, succeeding Adrián Ferrer, with a total of 4 wins and 204 points this season. Marcos de Diego has finished second, with 195 points, after a very solid year. Third place goes to Marco Aguilera, with 185 points, while Sandro Pérez and Antonio Albacete complete the top 5 with 170 and 165 points, respectively. From there, the gaps remain minimal over Ignacio Rodríguez (164), with Himar Acosta (117) and Tomás Pregliasco (112) also very close to each other. A final classification that once again confirms the parity that defines the Toyota GR Cup Spain.

The one-make series of Toyota Spain and MSI will return in 2026 with a calendar composed of six rounds, incorporating the Jarama Circuit as its major novelty and reinforcing its role as a training and entry platform for touring car and GT competition.
