MSi Racing Team has closed a historic Rally Paraguay with victory for Diego Domínguez and Rogelio Peñate in the WRC2 category. The Paraguayan-Spanish duo delivered an outstanding performance at the wheel of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, leading the category from Friday’s opening stages and maintaining the advantage all the way to the finish in Encarnación.

The victory, achieved in front of the home crowd, is particularly significant for Diego Domínguez, who becomes the first Paraguayan driver to win a WRC2 round of the FIA World Rally Championship.

Domínguez and Peñate demonstrated a strong pace throughout the rally, securing five category stage wins, while also bringing the MSi Racing Team Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 home in an impressive seventh place overall.

For Diego Domínguez, the victory represents the culmination of a personal and sporting dream, made even more special by achieving it in front of his home fans and with his late father very much in his thoughts.

Diego Domínguez (DRIVER): “I have no words to describe what this means. It is the dream of my life, Rogelio’s dream, the team’s dream and the dream of an entire country. Today, we have the first Paraguayan to win a World Championship round. I can only feel gratitude and pride in being Paraguayan and in living in a country that breathes and lives for this passion. This victory is especially for my father, who helped me, pushed me to achieve this and encouraged me to continue my career in rallying. Now I just want to enjoy it and celebrate it with the whole team and everyone who has supported us”.

Rogelio Peñate (CODRIVER): “I have no words to describe what I have experienced alongside Diego; we have lived a dream! Achieving a WRC2 victory has taken years of dedication, and that effort has been rewarded in the best possible way. Hard work always pays off! We will continue to give our very best so that we can enjoy more results like this”.

Teo Martín (TEAM MANAGER): “We are extremely proud of the entire team. Winning WRC2 in Paraguay, with Diego becoming the first Paraguayan driver to achieve a World Championship victory, is a very special moment. Diego and Rogelio have delivered an outstanding rally, with exceptional pace and consistency, and they have made the most of the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2’s potential. There is a huge amount of hard work behind this result, and today is a day to enjoy it”.

Andrea Lafarja and Germán Maune have secured a historic third-place finish in the WRC Masters Cup at Rally Paraguay, completing one of the toughest rounds of the World Rally Championship in front of their home crowd.

The Paraguayan duo maintained their podium position throughout the rally, managing the demanding stages and challenging conditions with consistency and composure. Their pace and careful approach allowed them to stay among the leading crews in the category until the finish.

The result carries particular significance for Andrea Lafarja, who has become the first Paraguayan woman to score a podium finish in a World Rally Championship event held in Paraguay.

Together with Germán Maune, Lafarja delivered a strong and consistent performance across the rally, balancing pace with the need to manage the demanding conditions and bring the car safely to the finish.

The third-place result represents a significant achievement for the crew and a memorable moment for Paraguayan motorsport, with Lafarja making history in front of her home fans.

Andrea Lafarja (DRIVER): “I’ve been waiting for this day my whole life. I feel happy, very sore and fulfilled. Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada retire from Rally Paraguay 2026 after an accident in the first stage

MSI Racing Team and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain tackled the Rally Paraguay, but the event came to an early end for Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada, who were forced to retire on the opening stage after a heavy accident. The Paraguayan round, the eleventh event of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), ended far too soon for the Spanish pairing, who were forced to retire on the first stage following a significant crash.

Rally Paraguay was a new event for Alejandro Cachón, although the Asturian driver arrived with positive feelings after the pre-event test. From the first kilometres, he felt comfortable with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, and the shakedown confirmed that strong start, with the second-fastest time in WRC2. At a new event for the driver, these initial sensations confirmed the good work carried out ahead of the rally.

However, during the opening stage, in a high-speed section, the Asturian driver clipped a bank with the left-rear wheel and the car rolled. The heavy impact caused significant damage to the car, preventing Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada from rejoining the rally for the following stages.

Alejandro Cachón (DRIVER): “First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their messages of support and for their concern. Physically, we are both fine, and the car suffered the most significant damage”.

Borja Rozada (CODRIVER): “The most important thing is that we are both okay. It is a shame to have ended a rally that we had started with such good feelings so early, but the impact was heavy and the car was badly damaged, so it was not possible to continue”.

Teo Martín (TEAM MANAGER): “It’s disappointing to end the rally this way after the good pace we showed during the shakedown”.
