Great pace of Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuán in the WRC2 Chile

Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuán finish the Rally Chile demonstrating a great pace that kept them in the top 5 of the general classification and scoring two scratches in their first time in Chile.

The Rally Chile started with Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuán getting the second fastest time of the Rally2 in the shakedown.

On Friday the action started with six timed stages, although the first one had to be cancelled due to the bad location of fans on the stages. Finally, the first stage ended with Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuán in fifth place overall.

Saturday started in the best way for the GR Yaris Rally2 crew, showing an incredible pace that allowed them to score two scratches and move up to fourth overall. However, a broken rear bracket after hitting a rock on the last kilometer of the SS11 slowed the GR Yaris Rally2 duo and forced them to retire on Saturday.

The team got back on track on Sunday and managed to be in the top three for the last three stages. In addition, only 0.3 seconds separated Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuán from winning the power stage.

Finally, Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuán finish the Rally of Chile in ninth position, showing a speed to be in the lead and having gained experience in an unknown terrain for them.

The 2024 season in WRC2 will end for the team at the Rally Japan, which will be held from 21 to 24 November of 2024.

Jan Solans (DRIVER): “It’s a pity about saturday’s retirement, without that we would probably have fought for a great result here in Chile. Even so, we are very happy, we showed a very high pace throughout the rally and if you do the maths the old way, we could have fought for the victory here in Chile, but the important thing is that we have learned, we have taken a step forward in terms of speed and that is what matters most for the future. On the other hand, the guys have also worked very well and the team, as always, has been united in good times and bad and we are looking forward to the next races’’.

Rodrigo Sanjuán (CO-DIVER): “It was a pity that we had to retire because otherwise we would have been in podium positions, but we are happy with the pace and speed we showed in Chile, being our first time here. The important thing is that we have gained confidence and experience that will help us for the next races. Now it’s time to think about the Rally Japan, where we would like to end the season in the best possible way‘’.

Teo Martín (TEAM MANAGER): “It was incredible the speed and pace that Jan and Rodrigo showed in Chile, scoring two scracth even though it was their first event there. For me, it was one of the best rallies we have ever done, being on a par with world champions. Now it’s time to prepare for the last event of the season, the Rally of Japan.’’.
