Teo Martín Motorsport makes history in WRC2 with a victory for Jan Solans in the Rally Portugal 2024

Jan Solans and Rodrigo Sanjuán make history in the Rally of Portugal by achieving the first victory for a Spanish driver in the WRC2 category and the first victory in WRC2 for the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. 

The first stage of the Rally de Portugal started on Friday with eight timed stages in which the lack of an assistance period meant that the team’s strategy and tyre conservation played a fundamental role. 

Jan and Rodrigo’s good pace allowed them to finish fourth overall and leaders in the WRC2 Challenger on Friday as well as being the fastest Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. 

The fight for podium positions continued on Saturday where the aim was to maintain a good pace but avoid mistakes after the numerous incidents on the stages that have happened in this rally. 

Thus, Saturday ended up leading the WRC2 and WRC2 Challenger thanks to the good choice of tyres, the great adaptation of the car to such tough stages as those of the Rally of Portugal and the concentration of Jan and Rodrigo that allowed them to lead in the time without forcing mistakes. 


On Sunday, the last day of the event, the last four stages were held, in which Solans and Sanjuán had to withstand the pressure of the leading position. Their great performance throughout the event allowed them to finish the Rally of Portugal with a lead of 3.2 seconds over the second classified, with Jan and Rodrigo finding out about this milestone live at the finish of the stage. 

The hard work of Jan, Rodrigo and the whole Teo Martín Motorsport and Toyota Gazoo Racing team has allowed them to achieve this first victory in the WRC2 category.

Jan Solans (DRIVER): “We finished Rally Portugal with our first win in WRC2 and the first victory for Toyota in the GR Yaris Rally2. It has been an incredible weekend, a fight from Saturday afternoon for the lead. We tried to be very consistent and try not to make any mistakes. In the end, everything went well and we were able to take the victory.
